Professional Services and other support for QMUL researchers, and further information for particular needs, are provided by a range of sources:
The Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) is a joint office between Queen Mary and Barts Health NHS Trust. It provides pre- and post-award support for research grants. Research Professional is a dedicated tailorable/searchable funding database that QMUL academics have access to through a QMUL-funded subscription.
Support for applications and awards under the various funding streams of the Horizon 2020 programme is provided by a separate team in the JRMO, and a QMUL-wide EU Steering Group of academic and professional services staff leads on information and coordination of bids – contact Vicky Byers for further information.
The Business Development Office (BDO) provides support for researchers in areas where engagement with business or industry is a significant factor. These include research grants with industry involvement including many of the larger or cross-disciplinary grants. The BDO is also pro-active in seeking out and developing industry partnerships of relevance to our research portfolio, developing interests, and strategic aims.
Queen Mary Innovation (QMI) negotiate agreements with industry to commercialise innovations arising from the Queen Mary research base, including licensing and other royalty bearing agreements, in order to ensure the effective translation of our research for societal and economic impact. QMI also coordinate and manage our innovation-related funding schemes – for example the Proof of Concept and Impact Accelerator programmes. See the internal QMI website for further information
The Centre for Academic Practice and Development provides a programme of workshops and activities tailored to meet the needs of research staff across the College. The topics include research project management, creative thinking and research leadership and management, plus Fellowship Day and Masterclasses and an ILM endorsed suite of leadership programmes.
Research Reporting and Open Access Publishing
The Repository and Research Information team are part of the university's Library Services, the team provide guidance on all aspects research relating to publications and other research outputs, including open access publishing, reporting and depositing research outputs and data to the institutional repository (Queen May Research Online), understanding journal and funder open access policies, managing the administration of open access publishing grants awarded to the university and maintaining Elements, the university's research reporting system. The Research Degrees Office (RDO) provides an administrative service to Queen Mary research degree students and staff involved in their supervision, covering governance, admissions, progress and examinations. The Doctoral College provides support for QMUL doctoral and post-doctoral researchers.
Intranet Research Website
The intranet research pages for Queen Mary, on Connected, contain a variety of information relevant to research at Queen Mary. This covers discussion of the REF, research strategy, the Doctoral College, research policies, research ethics, research funding, key contacts, the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), copies of the Vice-Principal (Research) news updates, and information about a number of other issues relevant to research at QMUL, and work in progress such as initiatives or Task and Finish Groups.
